Week #44 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

13 Watch! Stand firm in the faith! Be courageous! Be strong! 14 Let all that you do be done in love.

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.”

What does it mean to do everything in love?  Let’s apply this to our relationships.  Why would I take that leap? I am doing it because  here in Paul’s letter to the Corinthians he starts and ends addressing relationship issues within the church.  1 Corinthians is full of rich instruction that crescendos with his description of what love is meant to look like in our relationships.

How do we apply the “Be” and “Do” statements in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 to our relationships?

Be on our guard in love…….

Stand firm in the faith in love………

Be courageous in love……….

Be strong in love………….

Our relationships have times that call for us to be on guard,  to stand firm in our faith, to be courageous, and to be strong is part of living a life of love like Jesus.  All throughout his ministry on earth he left examples of how to love people well with strength, courage, and standing as a firm guard of the faith.   Love fulfills the greatest commands and knows no boundaries.

I have room for improvement how about you?

Love is….. kind, patient, it rejoices in truth, it always–protects, trusts, hopes, perseveres– never fails.

Love is not…… boastful, envious, prideful, self-seeking, angered easily, or delight in evil.

Week #42 Psalm 27:13-14

Psalm 27:13-14Psalm 27:13-14

13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of Yahweh in the land of the living. 14 Wait for Yahweh. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for Yahweh.

“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Last week we talked about having to wait and this week we are again being encouraged in our waiting.  I love it!   Psalm 27:13-14Psalm 27:13-14

13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of Yahweh in the land of the living. 14 Wait for Yahweh. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for Yahweh.

WP-Bible plugin
inspires me to remember why I can be confident in the Lord, why I can be strong, and why I should take heart in the Lord even as I wait for the Lord.  How can I do it?

Be Confident:  I have to take time to recall the Lord’s faithfulness in the past and reinforce my attitude of thanksgiving.  Sometimes when the waiting has been lengthy or the situation isn’t looking very good I have to literally write out my list.

What do you do?

Be Strong:  I get my strength from the Lord and do my best waiting when I keep myself in a prayerful mindset.  I usually turn to a verse that speaks to what I’m waiting on the Lord for and personalize it in prayer.

What do you do?

Take Heart:  I keep my heart connected to and focused on the Lord.  The word “take” gives a picture of capturing and controlling my heart as an act of power to continue to turn to the Lord for strength as I wait on him to lead me through my situation.  Again, it calls me to turn to the power of the Word of God to fortify my heart with his truth. Usually, I start with Philippians 4:8-9Philippians 4:8-9

Week #34 Joshua 1:7

Joshua 1:7Joshua 1:7

7 Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you: don’t turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

“Be strong and very courageous.  Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.”

I wonder, am I the only one who has said this “well that didn’t work out like I planned it.”  How often has that been the case in life for you?   Personally, it’s true more often than I like to admit.  The best failures are the ones that I was honest with myself and chose to learn from.  Maybe you can relate.

Usually my disappointing outcomes have one of these common factors: a lack of focus, not being diligent along the way, or not continuing in strength and courage.  Joshua 1:7Joshua 1:7

shares the Lord’s advice to Joshua for success as he started his leadership journey of the Israelites.

~Be Strong

~Be Courageous

~Be Careful to Obey

~Do Not Turn to the Right or the Left

What will happen if we follow the advise of the Lord today?  I think like Joshua we too will experience greater success through a strong and courageous relationship with the Lord.  Then He will daily help us to be careful as we follow His commands(Love the Lord above all and love others as yourself.  Matthew 32:36-40Matthew 32:36-40

)  Then we will be prepared in strength and courage we will remain focused in challenges and not turn to the left or right.

Let’s choose today to apply the Lord’s advice:

Be Strong~  Be Courageous ~ Be Careful ~ Be Focused

In the Lord ~ For the Lord ~ Through the Lord

Week # 13 Wisdom Builder Isaiah 26:3-4

How often do you experience perfect peace?  We live in a world that moves at a breathtaking pace that leaves many at the end of the day feeling further behind than when it began.   This weeks  “Wisdom Wellspring” verse Isaiah 26:3-4Isaiah 26:3-4
English: World English Bible - WEB

3 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you; because he trusts in you. 4 Trust in Yahweh forever; for in Yah, Yahweh, is an everlasting Rock.

WP-Bible plugin
reminds us that perfect peace is found in our mindset, not necessarily the circumstances of life.    Take a moment and read the verse out loud and make note of who will receive perfect peace and who provides it.

Those whose minds are steadfast” God keeps in perfect peace.   What is the key to a steadfast mind?  According to Isaiah the key is trust in the Lord.  So if we really do trust in the Lord, why do we spend so much time feeling anxious for the day and our future?  We are failing to use the key to peace and a steadfast mind.  We don’t believe enough in the Lord to trust him with everything.

Guilty as charged!  I have to admit the times I am not at peace are completely linked to the times I’m not trusting God with every area of my life.  It’s hard because it isn’t natural to let go and trust.  But when I withhold my trust it reveals an area of unbelief or lack of faith in my Rock.  Can you relate to this struggle to believe and trust?

Currently our family is in a big trust season.  Many Military families can relate.  It is the waiting period just before my husband will be told where our family will move next.  Sometimes we are given options ahead of time and others we just know it’s coming.  Over the many years of this process and fretting over the what if’s, when’s, and how’s that start to race through your mind when you don’t have control we have a solid belief that God is always in control.  Our confidence in God grew through the experience of looking for how God’s purposes for each location drew us closer to him.  We now are able to have a steadfast mind securely trusting in the Lord to put us exactly where he can use us for his purposes.  It has taken many moves to build our faith and trust in this area of life but I can honestly say the Lord is keeping us at perfect peace as we wait and trust him for the outcome.I don’t know what you are experiencing in your life right now but I hope you find encouragement to trust in God like Jesus did during his time on earth.

As I reflect on this verse I keep being reminded of the story in Mark 4:35 -41Mark 4:35 -41
English: World English Bible - WEB

35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the multitude, they took him with them, even as he was, in the boat. Other small boats were also with him. 37 There arose a great wind storm, and the waves beat into the boat, so much that the boat was already filled. 38 He himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion, and they woke him up, and told him, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are dying?” 39 He awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?” 41 They were greatly afraid, and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

WP-Bible plugin
(hover over the scripture reference to read it) where Jesus calms the storm for the disciples.  Take a moment to read it as a refresher.

Who made the decision to travel across the lake?  Jesus did.  Why do you think the disciples and Jesus were having opposite experiences on the stormy waters?  I believe Jesus was trusting his Father completely to watch over him as he rested through the storm and the disciples minds were not steadfast so they were easily overcome with fear based on their visible circumstances.  Oh how I desire to have a steadfast mind like Christ in all my circumstances of life.  What was his response to the panicked cry of the disciples?   His response was one of perfect peace.  He didn’t respond to their emotional babble rather he spoke to the situation in the power the Lord gave him- “ Quiet! Be still!”  Then he questioned the fearful and faithless response of the men.

Like the disciples we too are in a daily battle for a steadfast mind.  The original Hebrew word for steadfast provides a visual picture of a laid siege or depending on protection.  So if we think of our trust in the Lord being the key to secure the laid siege in our mind— the belief in the sovereign power of God in all our circumstances.  We are locking into God’s perfect peace.   Isaiah says God will keep us in perfect peace when we are locked into trusting him.  The hebrew word for keep speaks to watching and guarding.  It even describes the meaning of keep as to guard with a military camp within as a protection from penetration.  This is a very exciting visual.  Can you see it taking form in your heart?

Our faith comes from God who gives us the ability to believe in Christ our Savior.  An individuals belief and acceptance of Christ puts us in a new position of peace with God(Romans 5:1-2Romans 5:1-2
English: World English Bible - WEB

5 1 Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; 2 through whom we also have our access by faith into this grace in which we stand. We rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

WP-Bible plugin
).  That leads to a personal faith increasing our belief and trust in the Lord’s sovereignty.   Which then reinforces our protective siege of God’s truth in our heart and mind.  We secure our steadfast mind with the key of trusting the Lord.  When we trust on the Lord and not ourself then God is able to complete his work.  He will keep us in perfect peace by his guard within~ our peace with God himself our eternal Rock!

Do you trust in the eternal Rock to provide you with perfect peace?  If you are struggling today with answering with an honest “yes” then take a moment to reflect on what Jesus meant in John 14:27John 14:27
English: World English Bible - WEB

27 Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

WP-Bible plugin
when he spoke of peace.  He was not leaving and giving peace as the world defines it.  An absence of war or fighting.  The peace Jesus refers to is the peace experienced in closeness with God and the security provided by him that creates an atmosphere of tranquillity beginning within.  He is all about transcending the limited experiences of this world.  If that isn’t enough then consider the symbolism of the Hebrew word for Rock in Isaiah 26:4Isaiah 26:4
English: World English Bible - WEB

4 Trust in Yahweh forever; for in Yah, Yahweh, is an everlasting Rock.

WP-Bible plugin
.  Begin by imagining a steep cliff that is used for a personal refuge.  It is a place that symbolizes one of  security and defense.  That are provided because it is known to be inaccessible and it’s foundation is immoveable.  That is what God is for you~ your refuge, your security, your defense, your immovable foundation, and your eternal perfect peace!

Will you trust the eternal Rock with your today, tomorrows, and eternity?
