Week #23 2 Peter 1: 3-4

The low power flashes across the screen on our electronics,  the change oil light, low fuel, and check engine light flash and chime on our vehicle dashboard, and the low water light flashes on our coffee maker.  All of these signs are built in to help us maintain the effective and uninterrupted performance of, in some cases, the necessities of daily life in our modern world.  What happens if we ignore the initial flash and put off attending to the warning signs?  Immediately  nothing.  But if neglecting to respond becomes a habit we might find our self in distress trying to remedy the issue in a rush and frustration.  I’m sure I am not the only one with a story or two of delayed response.  As our experiences flow through our minds I’d like us to consider what low power lights flash for us personally in our spiritual life.

I imagine that most of us have a cell phone that we use on a regular basis.  So let’s consider what happens if we don’t plan to recharge it’s battery regularly.   If we neglect to be purposeful we have a greater potential for a power crisis.  Can  anyone relate?  Similarly, we must plan to recharge our spiritual life to live a godly life that honors the Lord.  Sometimes it is easy to lose sight of our need to stay charged with the divine power that God has given to us to live a godly life with Him.   Peter tells us in 2 Peter 1: 3-42 Peter 1: 3-4

that God has given us everything we need.  The days that it feels like we don’t have everything we need to live a God honoring life are the days we need a super charge of His divine power.

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.  Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”

This first week of June puts us right on the edge of Summer and all it’s activity.  When I first wrote this article, it will be full of moving vans, visiting family, unpacking, setting up a new home, and prepping to send kids to college.  I knew if I didn’t plan for personal spiritual power recharging it was not going to happen.  What do I mean by spiritual power recharging?  In basic terms it is daily devoting time to build my relationship with Christ and allow Him to empower my day.  These daily connection points  will look different from time to time but are centered around constantly building my knowledge of Him and His precious and great promises for me, as His child.  I planned to have each morning begin with prayer and a minimum of reading a daily verse that is sent to my email just to help me start out focused on God being my everything.   Also, to help keep my heart focused on Him, during busy times, I purposely listen to worship music throughout the day.  Bonus charge sessions in the Summer are when I get to pull out my Bible, read a section of scripture, and record my thoughts in my journal.  I’m praying for many bonus recharging sessions this season because life is so much more fun and abundant when lived on a full spiritual charge!

We have to remember God gave us all the divine power we need to live a godly life for Him.  We just need to stay connected to Him, our power source, to live out the  fully charged and abundant godly life He has purposed for each of us.

What is your recharging plan?

How are you staying connected?
