“Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!”

To rejoice is to be content and agree with the Lord, it is not just a happy gleeful feeling.  We rejoice through song and prayer from an attitude of thankfulness.   Why does this Psalm calls us to rejoice and sing?

The reason, the writer King David, gives us to rejoice is found in the first two verses.  We are  thankful because our Savior has made us blessed;  forgiven because He covered our sin so the Lord no longer holds our transgressions against those who have repented.  Complete forgiveness is a compelling motivation to live with an attitude of thankfulness and to be content in our blessed position in Christ— forgiven, loved, and protected. I think we can all find a reason to rejoice and sing when we get our eyes off our temporary circumstances and focus them on our permanent position in Christ.

Is singing part of your daily life?  I usually have music playing in the background as I work.  Music helps me keep a positive attitude because I generally listen to Christian praise music.  For me the melodies keep me moving and the words speak encouragement to my heart.   I often find myself humming songs of praise with thankfulness when I wake in the morning.

What sparks the song in your heart?

Rejoicing and singing is an outward expression of thankfulness ~ to be glad.

Are we thankful?

Does the Lord know we are thankful?

Today I will choose to rejoice in the little things knowing that my God will open my eyes to sing to him for the extravagant things He has done, He is doing, and He is yet to do!

Will you choose to rejoice with me?
