“Come to me , all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

I love to help people. How about you?

Do you receive help as eagerly as you offer assistance?   I have come to recognize accepting help is a good thing.  For many years I touted an attitude about welcoming offered assistance.  My attitude was similar to a two year old finding her independence saying on the inside, “no, I do it myself”.   After years of struggling to “do it” all my way I began to recognize the benefit for both others and myself to, openly and regularly, accept an offer from others to help carry my overweight load.

Are you weary today? Maybe you’ve been carrying a load that is above your weight limit.   If that is how you feel I want to remind you that there is hope for each of us. We have an open invitation from our Savior to come to Him.  The Lord’s invitations are extended to us based on His recognition of our needs and offer a valuable exchange.

He acknowledges that life on earth is not easy.  Life is full of circumstances that will  weigh us down and leave us feeling exhausted.  We will struggle to find the strength to face each new day, have reoccurring challenges, and experience continual disappointment, that is why daily we need to say “YES” to Jesus’ invitation to “come to me.”

Christ’s invitation offers an exchange of our burdens for His rest. His rest comes as we lay down our worries, our concerns, and our frustrations at His feet in prayer. Accepting the invitation is an expression of our trust in Him.  It still requires action.  When we choose to act on our belief that He is here to give us rest.  The rest He provides in exchange for our burdens will help us face our situations in life with renewed strength, a greater hope, and deepened faith in Christ’s promises; to never leave us or forsake us no matter what happens in this life.

Let’s remember to respond, “YES” to Jesus’ invitation and do our part in the great exchange~ accept the offer and receive His treasured rest. I know there are times His gift of rest came through my response of  “YES” to someone’s offer to help at just the right moment.  How about you?
