Week #36 Psalm 20:7

Psalm 20:7Psalm 20:7

7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, But we trust the name of Yahweh our God.

WP-Bible plugin

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”

What are the chariots and horses of our modern day life that the world trusts in more than God?   These are some of the first things that come to my mind~  technology, financial security, higher education, physical ability, and the list goes on.

What does it mean to trust? Many in our world today struggle with trust and cling to control out of fear of being disappointed or hurt. Trust is defined by Webster Dictionary in the following ways:

– belief that someone or something is reliable, good, honest, effective, ect

– an assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something

-confidence is placed in someone or something

-have hope is someone or something to follow through on promised results

While reviewing trust defined did any personal “chariots and horses” come to mind? Let’s try to personalize this verse to help reinforce our trust in the Lord. Here are a few examples of mine:

  • Some trust in the wisdom and skill of their surgeon and modern medicine, but I trust in the Lord to use these tools for His glory and victory in my life.
  • Some trust in their own abilities and knowledge to guide them to victory each day but I trust in the name, power, wisdom, and love of the Lord to guide me to daily victory for him.

I’d like to encourage you to share your “trust in the Lord” statements in a comment below. I know it will encourage someone and reinforce our trust in the Lord.

Week #35 2 Timothy 3:16-17

16 Every writing inspired by God literally, God-breathed is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction which is in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

WP-Bible plugin
“All scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

The time we spend digging into the word of God effects our preparedness level for the good works the Lord has prepared for us.   According to 2 Timothy 3:16-172 Timothy 3:16-17

our level of readiness is directly related to our interaction with scripture. Why is scripture so directly tied to our ability to live out God’s plan for us? The word of God is the main source for the Lord to communicate with his people.

Therefore it is our direct connection with the Lord. When we are intentionally reading and meditating on scripture we will learn and grow in righteousness. I know there have been many times when I have been reading the word and a section of verses will strike deep emotions in my heart and bring clarity to an area of my life that is causing challenges in my life. Maybe you can relate?

Remembering the way the Lord teaches me through his word for the purpose of drawing me close to him and equipping me for the plans he has for me motivates me to be intentional about daily spending time with him in his word.

To be ready for the work of the Lord calls us to be intentional about our training in righteousness. We must remember the wisdom of this world is but foolishness compared to the wisdom of the King of Kings.

Let’s be intentional about being ready!

7 Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you: don’t turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

“Be strong and very courageous.  Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.”

I wonder, am I the only one who has said this “well that didn’t work out like I planned it.”  How often has that been the case in life for you?   Personally, it’s true more often than I like to admit.  The best failures are the ones that I was honest with myself and chose to learn from.  Maybe you can relate.

Usually my disappointing outcomes have one of these common factors: a lack of focus, not being diligent along the way, or not continuing in strength and courage.  Joshua 1:7Joshua 1:7

I’m left with a question for our hearts~ How would the Lord describe my relationship with him?

I believe the honest answer reveals my rate of growth in eternal knowledge and my extent of foolish living in a casual relationship with the Lord.

My desire is to continually live in reverent relationship with the Lord.  One that is characterized by respectful fear that honors His position, His presence, His promises and His priorities.

Position~ Above all thing: The King of Kings

Power~ All powerful

Presence~ In heaven & In His children

Promises~ To love, to forgive, to be with, and to provide for His Children

Priorities~ His children are to love Him above all else-obey His commands- & love others as themselves

How does the Lord describe our relationship with Him………….. Committed ~  Casual  ~ Consequential   ?????

Committed:  continual purposeful growth in relationship and eternal knowledge

Casual:  occasional unintentional growth in relationship and knowledge of God

Consequential:   random unsustained grow in relationship and knowledge of God

Will we be purposeful in our relationship with the Lord and grow in the knowledge and experience of His position, power, presence, promises, and priorities for us His children?

Live out your purpose child of the King of Kings!!!

“Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!”

When is the last time you purposed to rejoice and sing to the Lord?  I hope it was recently.  If not, you might consider how you will choose to make rejoicing more regular in your life.

Rejoicing and singing is an outward expression of thankfulness ~ to be glad.  Are we thankful?  Does the Lord know we are thankful?

Today I will choose to rejoice in the little things knowing that my God will open my eyes to sing to him for the extravagant things He has done, He is doing, and He is yet to do!

Will you choose to rejoice with me?

12 For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

WP-Bible plugin

“For the word of God is alive and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

This verse is a powerful reminder of why we are to daily read and think on the word of God.  If we are truly seeking the Lord then prayerfully reading His word will be a continuous part of our relationship with Him.  To prayerfully read the word of God in a thoughtful manner that allows it to soak into the fabric of our heart is key to growing in deeper relationship with the Lord.

The writer of Hebrews ensures us we won’t be disappointed~

The Word of God is~

Active and Alive Daily fresh and relevant to sustain us like the daily mana sustained the Israelites in the desert.

Penetrating Sharpness– Personalized and specific to our lives needs for healing and restoration.

Judges– Reveals His truth in our thought life and hearts.

Lord, as we read your word this day open our hearts and minds to experience your word as it is alive, active, with penetrating-sharpness, and truthful judge of us each individually.  We desire to be drawn closer in daily relationship with you.  Speak to us through your Word.  Thank you for your word and it’s life giving power.

In Jesus Holy name, Amen
